Fall Weekend Concert offers variety

Five Northwestern College ensembles will perform in the Family Weekend Concert on Saturday, Oct. 31. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in Christ Chapel; the event is free and open to the public.

The Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Jungho Kim, will open the evening with Mozart’s Divertimento.

The A cappella Choir, directed by Dr. Thomas Holm, will perform three pieces. Their repertoire includes Miserere mei, Deus by William Byrd, O Magnum Mysterium by Morten Lauridsen and John the Revelator arranged by Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory.

Two works will be sung by the Women’s Choir, directed by Dr. Linell Gray Moss. Ma Navu by J. Spivak is based on Isaiah 52:7. The ensemble will also perform Brahms’ Benedictus.

The Heritage Singers, under the direction of Holm, will perform Bach’s Organ Fugue and two songs by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim: America and Gee, Officer Krupke.

Dr. Tim McGarvey will lead the Symphonic Band in their performance of two works to close the concert: October by Eric Whitacre and Festive Overture by Dmitri Shostakovich.
