Avery speaks at business conferences

Dr. Mike Avery, assistant professor of business and economics at Northwestern College, presented papers at two conferences in Chicago recently. Both meetings were in conjunction with the Midwest Business Administration Association International conference.

Avery and co-author Megan Grooters, a 2006 Northwestern College graduate from Des Moines, presented “Human Trafficking: Depravation and Abuse of Basic Human Rights” to the North American Management Society on March 28.  Avery also participated in a panel, “If Leadership Can Be Learned, What is the Best Way to Teach?” at the conference.

Avery and co-author David Goodoien, a junior economics and political science major from Vadnais Heights, Minn., presented “The Iran Dilemma: A Multifaceted Investigation in Diplomacy, Foreign Policy and Islam” at the conference of the Academy of International Business-Midwest Chapter on March 30. Avery also served as a session chair at that conference.

A member of Northwestern’s faculty since 2000, Avery has extensive experience as a business executive and Naval officer. A frequent conference presenter and author on logistics issues, he earned a doctorate in business administration from Nova Southeastern University.
