Mary Beth Breen joined Northwestern’s education department faculty with 17 years of teaching experience, having taught preschool, kindergarten or first grade at Christian schools in Sanborn, Sheldon and Orange City, Iowa. At Sanborn, she started the preschool program; at Sheldon, she aligned the preschool with Quality Preschool Program Standards; and at Orange City, she led professional development for curriculum and technology integration. A member of the Iowa and Northwest Iowa Reading Associations, she is the recipient of the 2020-21 Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council Scale-Up Award. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Northwestern College with reading, early childhood and coaching endorsements. In 2008 she completed a Master of Arts in Teaching at Morningside University.
