Northwestern to host Scholarship Auction

All-access PGA golf tournament passes, Beats by Dre HD headphones, and a handmade Northwestern College quilt are among the hundreds of items up for bid at the Northwestern College Alumni Association’s 32nd annual Scholarship Auction on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Silent auction bidding (which includes a “buy it now” option) begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Rowenhorst Student Center’s gym; the audible auction begins at 11 a.m.

While visitors browse and bid, Orange City’s American Legion chapter will be serving a waffle breakfast from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Tickets are $6.50 and are available at the door or in advance from any Legion member. Baked goods will also be available for sale.

Golf gear and resort packages will be on the block. Vacation condos in Okoboji and Branson, Mo., will be up for bid, as will tickets to see the Minnesota Twins or a Broadway show.

Technology enthusiasts can bid on a 32-inch LED TV or a Bose Bluetooth speaker. Indulge your nostalgia with a Howdy Doody ventriloquist doll or a book featuring World War II letters written by Orange City native Ralph Mouw. Get a year of Culver’s custard or 20 pounds of Iowa pork chops.

Auction proceeds support student scholarships and teaching excellence at Northwestern. Last year’s auction was attended by more than 400 guests and raised $35,000. Fifty students received Alumni Association scholarships for this school year.

A complete listing of the Scholarship Auction items will be available beginning Friday, Jan. 30, at the RSC desk, Orange City businesses and MJ’s Sinclair in Sioux Center. Items up for bid on Feb. 14 are also available for online browsing at www.nwciowa.edu/auction
