Jazz Band to perform Feb. 13

Northwestern College’s Jazz Band will present a concert on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The public is invited to attend.

Directed by Dr. Timothy McGarvey, the 19-member Jazz Band will perform seven pieces. The ensemble will open its performance with Children of the Night by Wayne Shorter. The group will also play numbers such as Count the Aces by Sammy Nestico and Boblicity by Miles Davis.

The ensemble will perform a “variety of jazz styles and a mix of standards and newer pieces,” says McGarvey. “Some of the music originated from some of the biggest names in jazz history.”       

Nine of the 19 members will play solos during the concert. The show will end with a Nestico piece, Front Burner, made famous by the Count Basie band.
