Rahn Franklin

Rahn Franklin serves as Northwestern's academic support and diversity specialist. His responsibilities include student mentoring; teaching learning strategies, writing and other academic skills; and monitoring student academic progress. He also serves as the adviser for La Mosaic, the college's multicultural student association. Originally from Kansas City, Rahn came to Northwestern from Buena Vista University, where he was a residence hall director and assistant director of student activities. He has a master's degree in school counseling and a bachelor's degree in exercise science, both  from Buena Vista.


John Menning

As Northwestern's disability services coordinator, John Menning provides accommodations for students with documented disabilities and supports them in their academic studies. He worked as a special education teacher for 32 years and has taught at the college level as an adjunct professor. He is a graduate of Grand Canyon University and earned a master's degree in special education from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.


Tom Truesdell

Tom Truesdell is the director of academic support and coordinator of Writing Across the Curriculum at Northwestern College. He also teaches a section of the First-Year Seminar and courses for the English department. A Northwestern graduate, he served as the writing center specialist at the College of Lake County in Illinois and as a graduate assistant in the DePaul University Writing Centers. His research addresses both writing center and composition theory, although he is interested in almost anything that deals with writing, language and literacy. Tom received a master's degree in writing theory and pedagogy from DePaul University and is currently a doctoral candidate in the composition and TESOL program at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.


Randy Van Peursem

Randy Van Peursem provides support for science students and faculty, helping to recruit prospective science students and advising them during their first year at Northwestern College. He also coordinates science lab assistants and manages the Peer Learning Center's 70+ student science tutors. In the evenings he supervises all the academic drop-in centers and assists with tutoring as needed. A Northwestern graduate, Randy was presented with the college's Staff Inspirational Service Award in 2009.
