Northwestern College presents RUSH

Northwestern College’s popular RUSH student dance concert returns to the stage this February and will once again offer a variety of dances and entertaining performances. The show will be performed seven times: Thursday, Feb. 12, at 7 and 9:30 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 13, at 7 and 9:30 p.m.; and Saturday, Feb. 14, at 4, 7 and 9:30 p.m. in the England Proscenium Theatre of the DeWitt Theatre Arts Center.

Energy and talent contribute to the wide variety of dances that will be performed during RUSH. “This year we have a lot of co-choreographers, which is an exciting opportunity. Each pair choreographs two dances together and combines ideas,” says Ashley Maloney, RUSH choreographer director. Among the dance styles are Bollywood, jazz and a ballet/hip-hop combination.

All RUSH dances are choreographed by Northwestern students and are comprised of students who vary from accomplished dancers to those with no dancing experience. After weeks of practice, the groups come together to put on a fast-paced and entertaining show. “Dance is a unique form of communication between the dancer and the audience,” says Maloney. “We have a great show this year, and I’m convinced audiences will leave the theatre feeling inspired.”

In addition to Maloney, other RUSH leaders include Drew Schmidt, artistic director; Rowan Sullivan, stage manager; and choreographers Heather Korinek, Sarah Wittenberg, Krista De Bruin, James Teutschmann, Miles Fletcher, Valerie Heaton, Ben Bosch, Paul Hubbard, Melody Quach, Megan Cole and Madison Raska.

RUSH tickets can be reserved by emailing boxoffice@nwciowa.edu. The box office will open on Monday, Feb. 2, at 4 p.m. for Theatre Patrons. Tickets for the general public will go on sale Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 4 p.m. Students will be allowed one reserved ticket and Northwestern College faculty and staff, along with the general public, will be allowed to reserve four tickets per family.
