Symphonic Band to tour

Senior Aaron Sundet will be featured on one of the pieces during the Northwestern College Symphonic Band’s spring tour in Minnesota and South Dakota.
Northwestern College’s Symphonic Band will perform in Worthington and Glencoe, Minn., and Brookings, S.D., March 27–30. Visit www.nwciowa.edu/band-tour for concert times and details.

The concert will include traditional and modern selections by composers from the U.S. and abroad. “Melita” by Thomas Knox is an arrangement of The Navy Hymn, “Eternal Father, Strong to Save,” and will be conducted by Matthew Honken, a Northwestern College senior music major from Sibley, Iowa. “The Glass Bead Game,” a Pulitzer-nominated composition, features Northwestern senior Aaron Sundet, Clarksville, Iowa, on French horn.

The band will also perform "The Rejoicing" by Handel and "American Overture for Band" by Joseph Wilcox Jenkins, a longstanding standard in the wind band repertoire.

The 48-member Symphonic Band is directed by Dr. Tim McGarvey, professor of music at Northwestern. The ensemble has performed across the U.S. and internationally, including in Cuba last spring.

The band will perform its final concert of the 2013–14 academic year in Northwestern’s Christ Chapel on Friday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m.
