Percussion ensembles to perform April 29

Percussion ensembles from Northwestern College and the University of South Dakota will present a joint concert on Thursday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Northwestern’s Christ Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

The two ensembles will combine on a major new work commissioned by Northwestern and other colleges and universities. Liturgical Music for Percussion, composed by David Gillingham, includes six movements, each inspired by Scripture or sacred readings. 

Northwestern’s ensemble will also perform Foreign Objects by John Bergamo and Digga-digga Digga-digga Digga-digga Digga-digga Deegot by David Jarvis. Directed by Jon Morin, the ensemble includes Coralyn Kutzner, Ryan Postma, Charlotte Richards, Sam Schouweiler, Sarah Shively and Kevin Wallace.

The University of South Dakota ensemble will also present Trio, written by student Reid Turner; Head Talk by Mark Ford; and Minoru Miki’s Marimba Spiritual. Under the direction of Dr. Darin Wadley, the group includes Carl Collison, Angela Lambrecht, Justin Munyer, Patrick Patterson, Rachel Poss and Turner.
