Leadership conference to feature Mike Yankoski

Northwestern College will host its 19th annual College Leadership Conference on April 17 and 18. Mike Yankoski, author of Under the Overpass, will be the keynote speaker. Yankoski will deliver two addresses, and students will also have the opportunity to attend two workshops.

Registration will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 17, in the Bultman Center lobby. The conference is free for Northwestern students and $25 for other college students. The opening banquet will take place in the Bultman Center at 6:30 p.m. Yankoski will deliver his first address at 7:45 p.m. in the DeWitt Theatre Arts Center, followed by live music and conversation.

Saturday’s events will begin with a continental breakfast at 9 a.m., followed by worship and devotions in the DeWitt Theatre Arts Center. At 10:15 a.m. Yankoski will deliver his final address, followed by the first of two workshops led by pastors, faculty and staff members, student leaders and community members. The conference will conclude around 2:30 p.m.

Yankoski is a 25-year-old graduate of Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Calif. Between his sophomore and junior years of college, Yankoski lived on the streets of six different American cities to observe how the church and Christians interact with the homeless. Under the Overpass relays his experiences during those five months. A board member for World Vision, he is a seminary student at Regent College in Vancouver, B.C.
