Northwestern to host Ethnic Fair April 4

Members of Northwestern College’s International Club (I-Club) will give area residents the opportunity to experience different cultures during the college’s annual Ethnic Fair Saturday, April 4.

Scheduled from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the Rowenhorst Student Center gymnasium, the program will feature music, dance, drama, poetry and food from around the world. A meal composed of international foods is included in the admission price of $10 for adults and $5 for children up to age 12. Those not eating will be charged an entry fee of $1 per person.

“In addition to a celebration of diversity, the Ethnic Fair is a chance for Northwestern’s international students to say thank you to the community for the support and warm welcome we’ve received while attending school so far from home,” says Chun-Wei (Jason) Ho, president of the I-Club.

Northwestern’s international students will wear traditional clothes and perform songs and dances from their native countries. The “Chopstick Challenge” will test participants’ dexterity with chopsticks, while children will have the opportunity to make a variety of international crafts. There will also be international flags on display, with presentations about various countries.

Northwestern’s International Club is composed of more than 100 students from Bulgaria, Canada, China, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Dominican Republic, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, India, Jamaica, Japan, Mauritius, Romania, South Korea, Sudan, Taiwan, Tajikistan and the United States.
