Student center design wins awards

The renovation of Northwestern's Rowenhorst Student Center (RSC) has received several awards this summer.

The project, designed by Cannon Moss Brygger and Associates and completed last summer, was awarded honorable mention for Outstanding Architecture and Design in Education in College Planning and Management's 2008 Education Design Showcase.

The renovation was also selected to appear as an Outstanding Design in the 2008 American School and University Educational Interiors Showcase. It is among 109 projects to be profiled in the August issue of American School and University.

The RSC was earlier featured in Design Cost Data Magazine's May-June 2008 issue.

The design team for the project included Todd Moss, principal-in-charge; Brent Koch, project manager; and Michele Roenboom, interior designer. Cannon Moss Brygger and Associates has offices in Sioux City and Spencer, Iowa, and in Grand Island, Neb.

The $5-million redesign has resulted in an attractive and functional student services mall with comfortable lounge areas and easy access to an expanded bookstore and post office, a cyber café with patio seating, a wellness center with health and counseling services, and classrooms and other student meeting spaces. In addition, the RSC is a more visible and student-friendly center for student government, campus security, student development, event planning, and services for international and minority students.
