Northwestern to host nursing mini-camps

Northwestern College’s nursing and admissions departments will host three nursing mini-camps for high school juniors and seniors interested in careers in nursing. The one-day camps will be held on Oct. 1 and Dec. 3, 2007, and Jan. 25, 2008.

Each camp, which runs from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m., offers students interested in nursing an opportunity to shadow nurses at the Orange City Area Health System and learn about career opportunities for nurses with B.S.N. (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) degrees.

Students will also meet with Northwestern nursing faculty and students and tour the college’s state-of-the-art nursing facilities. In addition, participants’ parents are invited to a luncheon where they will learn about scholarships and financial assistance for nursing students.

“The mini-camps are an opportunity for students and their parents to learn more about career opportunities in nursing and Northwestern’s unique B.S.N. program,” says Dr. Ruth Daumer, chairperson of Northwestern’s department of nursing.

“They also enable us and our colleagues at the Orange City Area Health System to showcase the vast nursing opportunities in our region.”

Interested high school juniors and seniors must pre-register at least two weeks prior to the camp they want to attend; space is limited. The registration form is available for download at www.nwciowa.edu/nursing. Or contact Pam Reints, nursing department assistant, at 712-707-7220 or preints@nwciowa.edu.
