Prof and student present papers at conference

Hennager, a business administration/marketing major, collaborated with Avery to write “The Role of Foreign Aid in Reducing Poverty.” The paper was a requirement for the International Economics class which Avery teaches. One of the requirements in this course is for students to write on a topic that affects international economics.

“Emily’s paper on aid was a really good paper, and when I have really excellent papers I ask the author if they will like to publish it or to take it to a conference,” says Avery.

Avery also collaborated with Rachelle (Cook) Johnson, a senior business administration/management major from Bellevue, Neb., who completed her studies at Northwestern in December, to write “FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) 2004: Simple Formula for Big Changes.” The paper explored the differences that arise when applying the new FLSA law. Avery presented this paper on his own at the Chicago conference because Johnson could not attend.

“The Role of Foreign Aid in Reducing Poverty” has been published in the Journal of Midwest International Business Research. “Formula for Big Changes” has been published in the proceedings of the Journal of North American Management Society.

Avery is a frequent conference presenter and author on logistics issues. A member of Northwestern’s business faculty since 2000, he has extensive experience as an executive, Naval officer and professor. Avery earned a doctorate in business administration at Nova Southeastern University.
