Daumer presents at education conference

Dr. Ruth Dankanich Daumer, chairperson of the department of nursing at Northwestern College, will present “Healthy Heart Habits: Help for Teachers and Students” at the Iowa Districts West and East 2005 Teachers’ Conference Oct. 20–21 in Des Moines. The annual conference addresses the continuing education needs of Lutheran Church Missouri Synod parochial school teachers, administrators and clergy in the state of Iowa. Daumer’s presentation focuses on recent research and biblical perspectives on physical, emotional and spiritual heart care for both students and teachers.
Additionally, Daumer was a judge at the 2005 Sioux Valley Hospitals and Health System Quality Fair held on Oct. 12 in Sioux Falls. At this event, Daumer and other experts from around the country judged projects from across Sioux Valley’s system which were directed at improving the delivery of high-quality health services.
Daumer coordinates a parish nurse ministry at Faith Lutheran Church in Orange City. Within her denomination she coordinates Health Advocacy, which encourages holistic health for professional church workers and their families in western Iowa. Regionally and nationally, she consults with other churches and denominations on faith and health ministries and clergy health.
Daumer holds a doctorate in educational administration from the University of South Dakota. She earned a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Briar Cliff University. She is licensed as an advanced practice nurse/clinical specialist in community health nursing.
