Northwestern wins public relations awards

Northwestern College’s public relations office has won two awards in the 2013 Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District Six awards competition.

Northwestern won a silver award for its admissions video, Real.Northwestern.2. The video features students telling what they really think about their profs, studying, discipleship and dorm life, and includes “student-cam” video they shot. Participants included Taylor Culver, Sioux City; Mario Garcia, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Nathan Mastbergen, Sioux City; and Janet Pitsenberger, Dyer, Ind. The video previously received an award of merit in the Higher Education Marketing Report’s advertising awards contest.

The video was produced by Joe Hubers, a 2003 Northwestern College graduate who leads Passenger Productions in Sioux Falls. The video can be viewed at www.nwciowa.edu/videos or YouTube.com/realnorthwestern.

Other institutions winning awards in the Video Recruitment Features category included MidAmerica Nazarene University, South Dakota State University, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the University of Central Missouri and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Northwestern also received a silver award for an essay published in the summer 2012 issue of the Classic, the college’s magazine. “Sandwiched,” by alumna Lisa Burg, was a first-person account illustrating her “Sandwich Generation” experience of parenting five children and working full time while caring for her aging parents and grieving over the losses she’s seeing in them. Other institutions winning awards in the Best Articles of the Year category included the University of Kansas and the Air Force Academy.

Council for Advancement and Support of Education is an association for professionals who work in alumni relations, communications, fundraising, marketing and allied areas at educational institutions. District Six includes colleges, universities and independent schools in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming.
