NWC student to perform vocal recital

Northwestern College senior Rianna De Winkle will perform a vocal recital on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

De Winkle, a senior from Ripon, Calif., is a vocal performance major. A member of the A cappella Choir, Heritage Singers and Symphonic Band, she is the recipient of the Lawrence and Dorothy Van Wyk Scholarship and the Marion Hinds Hospers Vocal Award. De Winkle receives voice instruction under Emily Lodine, lecturer in music.

A soprano, De Winkle will sing a variety of pieces that include art songs, operatic arias and musical theatre works. She will perform works by Johannes Brahms, Robert Schumann, Richard Strauss, Claude Debussy, Aaron Copland and Igor Stravinsky, among others. In addition, she will sing songs made famous by Frank Sinatra, including “I’ve Got a Crush on You,” written by George and Ira Gershwin; “In the Wee Small Hours,” written by David Mann and Bob Hilliard; and Bart Howard’s “Fly Me to the Moon.”

“They are all wonderful pieces, and I have really enjoyed working on them,” says De Winkle. “I am excited to see all my hard work finally brought to fruition.”
