Homecoming to include traditions and reunions

Northwestern College will celebrate Homecoming Saturday, Oct. 2, with traditions such as football, the Red Raider Road Race and Morning on the Green carnival. In addition, Homecoming will include reunions for four classes (1980, 1990, 2000 and 2005) as well as former baseball players and residents of Colenbrander Hall.

With a theme of “Spread Red,” Homecoming 2010 begins with the 17th annual Red Raider Road Race. With both 4K and 8K routes this year, the race begins at 8:30 a.m. on the track in De Valois Stadium. Pre-registration is $15; cost is $20 the day of the race. Visit www.nwciowa.edu/roadrace for registration details.

At 9 a.m., catch some baseball action as alumni take on the Raider baseball team on the MOC/Floyd Valley High School diamond east of campus.

From 9:30 to noon, enjoy Morning on the Green in the center of campus. The annual family-friendly carnival will include games and prizes; proceeds support student clubs and organizations. A picnic lunch will be served at Jaycee Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for kids ages 6 to 10; children five and under eat free.

During the picnic, a tent will be designated for reunions of the classes of 1980, 1990, 2000 and 2005. At the same time, former Colenbrander residents and their families are invited to celebrate the hall’s 50th anniversary. Contact current Colenbrander Hall resident director Ryan Anderson for details, 712-707-7211 or ryan.anderson@nwciowa.edu.

The Raider football team will kick off against Morningside at 1:30 p.m. on Korver Field. During the game, alumni can mingle in the Alumni Hospitality Tent behind the stadium’s west bleachers.

Children’s Theatre production Asian Folk Tales takes the Allen Theatre stage at 4 p.m. Alumni tickets are free and can be reserved by contacting the DeWitt Theatre box office, 712-707-7098 or boxoffice@nwciowa.edu. Day-of-show tickets will also be available at the door.

At 5 and 7:30 p.m., respectively, the Red Raider women’s and men’s soccer teams will host the Doane Tigers.

At 6:30 p.m., the Distinguished Alumni Dinner will honor the professional, humanitarian and Northwestern service achievements of Rachel Klay ’80, Vienna, Va.; Brian Renes ’85, Sioux Center, Iowa; and Barb Lubbers ’70, Orange City. Reservations are required: 712-707-7134.

Alumni arriving in Orange City on Friday, Oct. 1, can contact the alumni office for a campus tour and pass to visit classes in session.
