Instrumentalists to present student recital

Northwestern College senior Anthony Ebert of Grinnell, Iowa, and junior Kathleen Kropp of Limon, Colo., will present a joint instrumental recital on Sunday, April 13, at 3 p.m. in Christ Chapel. The public is invited to attend; no admission will be charged.

Ebert, a music education major, will perform three pieces for horn. He will begin with Vals Venezolano by Paquito D’Rivera. The Northwestern Brass Quintet will join Ebert to perform Laura by David Raksin. Ebert will finish by playing Sonata in E flat major by Joseph Rheinberger. Lori Vande Brake, staff accompanist, will accompany him on the piano.

A recipient of the Ritsema Family Scholarship, Ebert plays horn in Northwestern’s Symphonic Band. He also runs cross country and track and has earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors in each sport. After graduating, Ebert plans on teaching.

Kropp, a music education major, will perform four pieces for piano. She will start with Fantasia in C by Joseph Haydn and continue with Aaron Copland’s Selections From Four Piano Blues. She will then play Jeux d’eau by Maurice Ravel and end with Frédéric Chopin’s Fantasie Impromptu.

The 2007 recipient of the McGilvra Keyboard Competitive Scholarship, Kropp accompanies for Northwestern’s Women’s Choir and plays piano in the Jazz Band and flute in the Symphonic Band. Kropp plans on student teaching in Sioux Center, Iowa, next fall.

A reception will be held in the Choir Rehearsal Room in DeWitt Music Hall immediately following the recital.
