Stahl receives Wall Street Journal achievement award

Scott Stahl, a senior business administration/finance and agri-business major from Bridgewater, S.D., has been named Northwestern College’s 2007 recipient of the Wall Street Journal Student Achievement Award. He was among about 350 students from around the nation who received a year’s subscription to the business newspaper and whose names were printed in the Sept. 19 Wall Street Journal.

Stahl was chosen as Northwestern’s recipient by the business department. Dr. Graham Lemke, assistant professor of business and economics, said Stahl was selected based on his outstanding academic achievement in the study of finance. “We were particularly impressed by Scott’s commitment to learning about the financial world through class discussion and supplementary reading such as the Wall Street Journal,” he says.

Stahl’s business experience includes a summer 2006 internship at United Bank of Iowa and another internship in summer 2007 in the agricultural lending department at Iowa State Bank in Orange City, Iowa. On campus, he is a member of Northwestern’s Admissions, Retention and Honors Committee; a starting outside linebacker for Raider football; involved in various intramural teams; and a recipient of the prestigious Norman Vincent Peale Scholarship. Stahl earned honorable mention All-Great Plains Athletic Conference honors in football last year and was selected as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete. Stahl also mentors a local high school student.
