Chigozie Obioma was born in Nigeria. A recipient of Hopwood Awards in fiction and poetry, his fiction has appeared in Virginia Quarterly Review and Transition. His debut novel, The Fishermen, was translated into 27 languages and won the inaugural FT/Oppenheimer Award for Fiction, the NAACP Image Awards for Debut Literary Work, and the LA Times/Art Seidenbaum Prize for first fiction. It was also a finalist for the Man Booker Prize in 2015 and many others. Obioma was named one of Foreign Policy's 100 Influential People of the Year in 2015. He has lived in Cyprus, Turkey and now the United States, where he is a professor of literature and creative writing at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He continues to coordinate a number of projects in Nigeria.
