Karen Bohm Barker Dean of Arts and Humanities
As dean of arts and humanities, Karen Bohm Barker oversees the departments of art, English, foreign languages, history, music, philosophy, religion/Christian education, and theatre. A member of Northwestern's faculty since 1988, she has been described as an educator whose vibrant life of faith and expertise leads students to commit to excellence in study, creativity and creating community. Barker earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in acting from Northern Illinois University. Her professional acting credits include national radio, regional theatres and major conferences; she has worked as both a director and dramaturg. In 2003 the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival recognized her for exceptional service to theatre. In addition to serving as dean, she teaches half time as a professor of theatre.
