Jan 30, 2007

Senior Elizabeth Grim is headed to the national Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival scenic design competition after winning the regional award for her design for "James Joyce's The Dead."
Northwestern College student Elizabeth Grim, a senior from Huxley, Iowa, won the Barbizon Design Award for her scenic design for James Joyce’s The Dead at the Region Five Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF), held at Iowa State University in Ames Jan. 21–28.

The musical was produced at Northwestern in February 2006. Grim will compete in the national KCACTF at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., April 16–21.

In addition to Grim, senior Vaughn Donahue, Monmouth, Maine, won first place for a poster he designed for Gone to Earth, produced at Northwestern in November. Marly Wooster, a senior from Grinnell, Iowa, received a certificate of meritorious achievement for that production’s lighting design, and Jaimi Joneson (senior, Council Bluffs, Iowa), Kristen Olson-Jones (senior, Broken Bow, Neb.) and Noel Wotherspoon (freshman, Fairfield, Iowa) were recognized for their dance choreography.

Nicole Pullaro, a senior from San Diego, received a certificate for meritorious achievement for her costume design for children’s show Man in the Moon, on stage last October through December.

The Region Five festival features the artistry and technical work of theatre students in graduate and undergraduate programs in Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, and North and South Dakota.

Northwestern students regularly win acting, technical and playwriting awards at KCACTF. Northwestern theatre professors have also been recognized for their design work and outstanding contributions to theatre in Region Five.
