Iowa’s Professor of the Year for 2006, Jeff Barker has written more than 50 plays, including Unspoken for Time, published by Dramatic Publishing, and Kin, a finalist for the Arlin Meyer Prize in 2005. Barker’s play September Bears, about events surrounding 9/11, was featured on the FOX News Channel in 2003. In 2004, the DeWitt Theatre Arts Center opened with And God Said, a musical Barker created in collaboration with Broadway composer Ron Melrose. The script and lyrics for And God Said are drawn exclusively from the Old Testament. In 2006, Barker was appointed to the Northwestern College Endowed Professorship, a position he will hold until 2011. Barker’s M.F.A. is from the University of South Dakota.
