Dr. Yoder, who was raised Mennonite and has lived in Brazil and Costa Rica, brings a pacifist perspective and a passion for Latin America to Northwestern’s sociology department. He calls sociology “the quintessential liberal arts discipline” because it looks so broadly at human society. Yoder holds a doctorate in sociology and a master’s degree in Ibero-American studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He teaches principles of sociology, minority groups, sociological theory, demography and sociology of religion.
