Transferring credits
Students may transfer a maximum of 62 credit hours from an accredited university, private or community college. Credits will be accepted only for courses in which the student earned a C or higher grade. Students transferring 30 or more credits to Northwestern must complete their final 30 credits at NWC in order to earn a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Northwestern.
Articulation agreements
An articulation agreement is an officially approved agreement between two educational institutions that matches coursework between schools. These agreements are designed to help students make a smooth transition when transferring from a community college to a four-year institution without experiencing a delay or duplication of coursework.. Northwestern College has articulation agreements for certain majors with the following institutions:
- Community Christian College, Redlands, California.
- Northwest Iowa Community College, Sheldon, Iowa.
- Western Iowa Tech Community College, Sioux City, Iowa.
For current students
Students may transfer up to 18 credits (any combination of AP, CLEP or correspondence courses) to apply toward their NWC degree, provided they meet the college’s residency requirement. Credits will be accepted only for 100-level or above courses in which the student earned a C or higher grade. Before any NWC student enrolls in courses at another institution, he or she must receive prior approval from the registrar.
When current NWC students have earned 62 credits, they may transfer only a maximum of two courses totaling no more than eight credits from a two-year or junior college, provided they meet the residency requirement.
