President of Northwestern College
Background and qualifications
Faith, leadership and character
The president must be a maturing Christian who serves as a vibrant ambassador for Christ in every aspect of life and witness, desiring to bring a solid faith in Jesus Christ to every thought, interaction, decision, speech and plan, and demonstrating a relationship with God that seeks to integrate Christian faith with everyday life and learning.
Such integration is vital to the community-oriented and collegial culture at Northwestern College. For this reason, trust and collaboration must be at the heart of a successful working relationship between the president and the faculty, staff and administration.
In this atmosphere, students expect a president who is accessible to them and visible in the life of the college. At Northwestern, teaching and learning aren’t confined just to the classroom. Athletics, campus ministry, fine arts activities and residence life are also important parts of campus life and learning and should be valued and visibly supported by the president.
The Reformed tradition
Because Northwestern College is affiliated with the Reformed Church in America (RCA), it is expected that the president will join and be active in a local RCA congregation. Current or previous membership in the denomination is not essential, but the president must be in agreement with the RCA’s doctrine and teachings and be Reformed in theology.
Passion for Northwestern College
The ideal president will embrace the community and have a passion for Northwestern’s strengths, unique qualities and potential for the future. Strengths of our next president should include a natural gift and passion for building and cultivating relationships, inspiring and motivating constituents, and asking for their prayer and financial support. Assisted by the vice president for advancement and the advancement staff, the president is the college’s chief fund-raiser.
Academic qualifications
The ideal candidate will have an earned academic doctorate or terminal degree coupled with significant leadership experience.
