Internships

Internships are a great way to get practical experience for a future career. If you’re a philosophy major with a second major in another academic discipline, your second major may determine the best type of internship for you.

Several semester-long off-campus programs would be great options for students double-majoring in political science, religion or English. The American Studies Program in Washington, D.C., for example, will give you an insider’s view of the nation’s capital. The interdisciplinary, issues-oriented program connects biblical faith with public life and vocation through seminars and community living. Internship placements for students in the ASP range from the federal government to policy think-tanks and advocacy groups.

Another off-campus study program that includes an internship is the Chicago Semester. Working four days a week and taking seminars on Friday, you’ll explore Christian social values and the city and its culture while strengthening your career goals.

Want a concrete example of just how far-reaching the possibilities are? Philosophy and writing & rhetoric major Dietrik Vanderhill ’03 spent a semester studying in the Los Angeles Film Studies Center and interning at Zeta Entertainment, a small film production company, as preparation for a writing career.
