The need for nurses
Employment opportunities for nurses are excellent. According to a 2007 report by the U.S. Department of Labor, employment of nurses is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2014, with more new jobs being created for nurses than any other occupation.
Why get a B.S.N.?
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends that at least 67 percent of nurses hold at least a B.S.N. (Currently, only 35 percent of nurses have a B.S.N. degree or higher.) In today’s healthcare environment, the B.S.N. is the most desired nursing credential, with a median salary of $53,450. A bachelor’s degree in nursing will enable you to work as a nurse in any healthcare setting, and it is needed if you aim to be a nurse practitioner or nurse anesthetist.
