Student artwork part of juried exhibition

Northwestern College’s final art show of the academic year will feature work chosen as part of a juried exhibition. The selected entries will be on display in the Te Paske Gallery April 20 through May 1, with a public reception scheduled for Monday, April 27, at 7 p.m.

Northwestern’s 48th annual Juried Student Art Exhibition gives the college’s art students the opportunity to competitively test their work with each other and to have the results of that competition exhibited. The show will feature paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, ceramics and photographs, as well as mixed media and graphic design projects. While the students aren’t required to be art majors, all entries must be work created as part of a Northwestern College art course.

Janine Calsbeek of Orange City and Anne Plageman of Maurice, Iowa, are serving as the jurors for the show. Awards will be announced during the April 27 reception, when the two jurors will offer comments about their selections. Calsbeek is a Northwestern College graduate, journalist and photographer who has served as the director of the Orange City Arts Council since 2009. Plageman worked as a graphic artist for 22 years after earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Central College. She also taught art at the junior high, high school and college level and has exhibited her paintings and drawings in art shows.

The Te Paske Gallery is located in the Thea G. Korver Visual Arts Center, on Highway 10 at 214 8th St. S.W. in Orange City. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to midnight Sunday.
