Students to serve over summer

Twenty-one Northwestern College students will spend their summer volunteering with mission agencies like Rahab’s Rope, which serves Indian women and children vulnerable to sex trafficking.

Twenty-one Northwestern College students are members of the college’s 2014 Summer of Service (SOS) team. They will spend at least six weeks volunteering as short-term missionaries in 14 countries: Bolivia, China, Costa Rica, Ghana, Greece, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, Poland and the United States.

The students—whose majors include art, biology, education, journalism, nursing, psychology, religion, social work, sociology, Spanish and sport management—will assist pastors, physicians, teachers and other missionaries in churches, hospitals, orphanages and refugee camps. They will teach English, lead worship, deliver community health programs, and provide education and vocational training to sex-trade victims with ministries such as Pioneers, Rahab’s Rope and the Luke Society.

Since 1981, Northwestern College’s SOS program has encouraged and prepared students to be effective Christian servants around the world. Team members raise their own funds through the support of family, friends and their churches. This year’s SOS team is raising $86,500.
