Barker is writer for best feature at Iowa film festival

Jeff Barker, Northwestern College theatre professor, is credited as a script consultant for The Frontier Boys, which won best feature at the Iowa Independent Film Festival in Clear Lake, Iowa, July 15–17.

Written and directed by John Grooters of Michigan, The Frontier Boys tells the story of four friends and basketball teammates. When one of them becomes involved with a gang distributing meth, the violent consequences change all their lives. The trailer for “The Frontier Boys” is available at www.frontierboys.com.

Actors in the film include Grammy-nominated musicians Big Kenney, Rebecca St. James and Melissa Brock of Superchick. Their music, as well as music by Switchfoot and Jesus Culture, is part of the movie’s soundtrack.

The Frontier Boys has screened at film festivals in California, Nevada and Georgia as well as Iowa. It also won best feature at the Sabaoth International Film Festival in Milan, Italy, and the Golden Palm Award at the Mexico International Film Festival.

Playwright in residence at Northwestern College, Barker has written more than 30 plays that have been produced by colleges and professional theatres around the U.S.
