Senior art majors to exhibit work

Thursday, March 4, 2010

Three Northwestern College art majors will display their work March 19 through April 2 in the college’s Te Paske Gallery.

The show, entitled “A.M.P.,” will feature the art of seniors Moriah Maquin Anderson, Elizabeth Myers and Stephanie Parnell. It will open with a public reception Friday, March 19, at 7 p.m. The exhibit is in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a bachelor’s degree in art.

Anderson, of Bismarck, N.D., plans to display acrylic paintings, graphite drawings, intaglio and lithography prints, ceramics, sculptures, photographs and graphic design work. An art/graphic design major, she plans to pursue a career in graphic design following graduation.

Myers, also an art/graphic design major, will attend Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver following graduation, where she plans to study illustration—with an emphasis on illustrating children’s literature. The Sibley, Iowa, native will display a collection of her favorite pieces made while a student at Northwestern, including acrylic paintings, photographs, drawings and sculpture.

Portraits, landscapes and geometric art are Parnell’s contribution to the exhibit. Her choice of media includes acrylic and watercolor paintings, ink drawings, sculptures, ceramics and photography. An art/graphic design major from Fairmont, Minn., she plans to work in magazine layout and logo design following graduation, along with coaching and photography.

The Te Paske Gallery is located in the Thea G. Korver Visual Arts Center, on Highway 10 at 214 8th St. S.W. in Orange City. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to midnight Sunday.
