Art professors to display work

Northwestern College’s three art professors will display their artwork in an exhibition scheduled for Aug. 24 through Sept. 11 in the college’s Te Paske Gallery. An opening reception with the artists will be held Friday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m.

Rein Vanderhill will exhibit acrylic and watercolor paintings of flower blossoms and Lake Michigan landscapes. A member of Northwestern’s faculty since 1974, Vanderhill earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting and printmaking from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. His paintings are in collections in homes, institutions and businesses throughout the country.

Phil Scorza spent 20 years as a professional graphic designer—in both the corporate setting and as a freelancer—before joining Northwestern’s faculty in 2005. His work combines graphic illustration and imagery using multiple media, applied to traditional surfaces as well as found objects. Scorza attended Northwestern for two years before earning a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from Iowa State University.

Arnold Carlson will have both wall-mounted and free-standing sculptures on display that combine ceramic, wood and found-object elements. Carlson’s art has been featured in exhibitions in Tennessee, Michigan and Maine. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Memphis College of Art in Tennessee and has been part of Northwestern’s art department since 2007.

The Te Paske Gallery is located in the Thea G. Korver Visual Arts Center, on Highway 10 at 214 8th St. S.W. in Orange City. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to midnight Sunday.
