Choir to present concert tour finale

The 70-member choir’s concert will begin with songs focusing on the progression of the human heart from cold to submission and finally worship at the foot of the cross. Next the ensemble will perform folk and virtuosic selections, and the concert will close with spirituals.

The first part of the concert will include dramatizations of portions of John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress and choral arrangements of the hymns Softly and Tenderly and When I Survey.

Part two features several onomatopoeic pieces, when choir members will use their voices as instruments, including Pokpok Alimpako, about a children’s game, and Naiman Sharag, which includes the sound of horses.

The final part of the concert includes Ezekiel Saw the Wheel, Daniel in the Lion Den and the choir’s traditional Beautiful Savior.

Northwestern’s A cappella Choir is directed by Dr. Thomas Holm, associate professor of music at the college and conductor of the Sioux County Oratorio Chorus. A member of Northwestern’s faculty since 2000, he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting from the University of Illinois and completed Master of Music degrees at the University of Alberta and the University of Idaho. The A cappella Choir has performed across the United States and in Eastern Europe.
