Ballroom dance and lessons to be held

Northwestern College will host its annual ballroom dance on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 9 p.m. in the Rowenhorst Student Center gymnasium. The dance, organized by the Student Activities Council, will feature music from the Northwestern College Jazz Band.

Performing primarily swing pieces from the 1930s and 1940s, the Jazz Band’s repertoire will include music made popular by such artists as Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington.

Admission to the event will be $5 for Northwestern College ID holders and $10 for the general public.

Ballroom dance lessons will be held in the Rowenhorst Student Center Mini-Gym from 8 to 10 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9; Wednesday, Feb. 11; Monday, Feb. 16; and Thursday, Feb. 19. Dr. Heather Josselyn-Cranson, director of music ministries, will provide instruction on swing, foxtrot, waltz and samba dancing.

Lessons will be free for Northwestern College ID cardholders. Rowenhorst Student Center passes will not be accepted, but members of the public are invited to attend for $5 per couple per lesson. Participants do not need to bring partners to the lessons. Men are encouraged to wear dress shoes; women should wear heels.
