Exhibitions to feature work by senior art majors

Three senior art majors at Northwestern College will display their work during November and December in the college’s Te Paske Gallery. The exhibitions are in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a bachelor’s degree in art.

The first show, Nov. 1–8, will feature artwork by Kelly Mulder, a secondary art education major from Steen, Minn. Entitled “These Are a Few of My Favorite Things,” it will include oil paintings, prints, ceramics, plaster sculpture and photography. A reception with the artist is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 2, from 2 to 6 p.m. Mulder plans to teach high school art after graduating from Northwestern.

The exhibition by Elizabeth (Pedersen) Petersen Nov. 10–14 will consist of acrylic paintings, drawings, prints, ceramic and plaster sculpture and performance art. All of her work is a response to—or conversation with—historic artwork. A printed program will include the referenced art and explanations of her work. In addition to her art major, Pedersen is obtaining teaching endorsements in K-12 art teaching and secondary special education. Following graduation, she plans to move from her hometown of Alta, Iowa, to Omaha, Neb., and find a teaching job.

Dec. 1–7 are the dates for Mark Alsum’s exhibition of acrylic paintings. The Alton, Iowa, native describes his work as a collection of re-contextualized cultural icons. An opening reception will be held at 7 p.m. on Dec. 1.

The Te Paske Gallery is located in the Thea G. Korver Visual Arts Center, on Highway 10 at 214 8th St. S.W. in Orange City. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to midnight Sunday.
