Jon Manchester is “The Clown of God” from a story by Tomie dePaola. He, Greta Hays (left) and Margareta DeBoer are cast members for “Tell Me the Truth."

Classic and contemporary children’s stories and poems will be presented as family theatre in Tell Me the Truth, on stage at Northwestern College Friday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 8, at 2 and 7 p.m. in the Allen Theatre of the DeWitt Theatre Arts Center.

The six-member cast is also presenting the show to audiences of schoolchildren every Tuesday and Thursday from Oct. 2 through Nov. 13.

Adapted and directed by Northwestern theatre professor Karen Bohm Barker, Tell Me the Truth opens with Tell Me, a poem by Shel Silverstein.

More poems by Silverstein, Dr. Seuss, Judith Viorst and Jane Yolen are interspersed with familiar stories like Love You Forever by Robert Munsch and Tomie dePaola’s The Clown of God.

The one-hour production also includes Follow the Drinking Gourd about the Underground Railroad and Peppe the Lamplighter about immigrant hopes and dreams. The Dot encourages the artist in everyone, and Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge is a story about the value of intergenerational relationships.

Tickets for Tell Me the Truth are $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. The DeWitt Theatre box office opens Oct. 27 for Theatre Patrons; it is open Oct. 28 to Nov. 8 for the general public.

Tickets can be purchased by visiting the box office between 4 and 9 p.m. Monday through Friday or between noon and 5 p.m. on Saturday. The box office can also be reached by phone, 712-707-7098, or e-mail, boxoffice@nwciowa.edu.
