Student dance concert to be presented

Over 140 Northwestern College students will dance in RUSH, a student dance concert, on Oct. 3, 4 and 11 in the England Proscenium Theatre at the DeWitt Theatre Arts Center.

RUSH is choreographed, produced and presented exclusively by students. The hour-long performance will feature a variety of dance styles including jazz, hip-hop, salsa, modern and abstract.

Dancers will present eight performances over two weekends. Performances will be at 7:30 and 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, and Saturday, Oct. 4, along with a 2 p.m. matinee on Oct. 4. Three shows, at 2, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m., will be presented the following weekend on Saturday, Oct. 11.

The experience level of the dancers in the show will range from beginner to expert. As producer Phil Kosakowski points out, “RUSH is meant to be an educational tool. I hear many students each year saying, ‘I can’t audition for RUSH, I don’t know how to dance,’ but that’s the point. RUSH believes anyone who wants to dance can dance.”

Tickets for the performance are free, but reservations are required. The box office will open on Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. Reservations can be made by e-mailing boxoffice@nwciowa.edu and will be honored only if they are received after 4 p.m. on Sept. 26.
