Storyteller to headline Hispanic Festival

Sacre is an internationally known bilingual writer, storyteller and solo performance artist. He has encouraged embracing diversity through performances at the Kennedy Center, the Library of Congress’ Festival of the Book, and Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art.

On Wednesday, Sept. 17, Sacre will perform in Northwestern College’s Christ Chapel at 10:05 a.m. He will also give a public performance at 7:30 p.m. in the same venue.

Sacre will also present workshops for area teachers, parents and students involved in English Language Learners programs Sept. 16 and 17 in Denison and Orange City.

Community members are invited to Northwestern College’s central campus (north of Zwemer Hall) on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the Hispanic Festival.

In addition to authentic Mexican food, the festival will include Hispanic children’s games and activities from 10 a.m. to noon, storytelling, and performances by a mariachi band and Estrellas de Jalisco, a children’s Mexican folk dancing troupe.

The festival kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15–Oct. 15).
