Off-campus music opportunities
Northwestern’s music ensembles will take you around the country—and, indeed, around the world—through annual tours. The A cappella Choir has recently performed in Austria, the Czech Republic, Indiana, Kentucky and Florida, while the Symphonic Band has toured in Mexico, Venezuela, Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin.
If you’re looking for more opportunities to grow musically and prepare for your future, Northwestern has a number of programs that will take you beyond Northwestern and Orange City. Recent music majors have participated in semester-long study abroad programs in Austria and Wales. A music professor led a four-week summer study trip that explored the music of Ireland. And four Northwestern students have been chosen for the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles International Youth Wind Orchestra since 1999, performing in California, Ireland, Sweden and Switzerland.
A number of music education students have done their student teaching in the Windy City through the Chicago Semester. Music ministry major Laura Gould gained hands-on experience as a singer/songwriter through the Contemporary Music Center on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts, sponsored by the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities. Other music ministry majors have interned as far away as Christ’s Community Church in Glendale, Arizona, and as close as First Reformed Church, Orange City.
