Dr. Stepanov holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in cello performance from the Armenian National Conservatory of Music, Erevan, Armenia, as well as a Master of Music degree in cello performance and string pedagogy and an artist’s diploma from Azerbaijan National Conservatory of Music, Baku, Azerbaijan. He has taught and performed in Baku, Moscow, Sioux Falls and Sioux City.
