Dr. Dahn teaches music theory and composition courses. He earned his doctorate in music composition from the University of Iowa, where he served as a visiting assistant professor. He also holds degrees in music theory and composition from Houston Baptist University and Western Michigan University.
An active composer, Dahn’s music has been performed throughout the United States and the world. In May of 2008, his clarinet quintet entitled Penumbrae received its world premiere at the Moscow Conservatory’s Rachmaninoff Hall. His violin and piano work, (Ex)changing (Ex)tracts, also received multiple performances in 2008 by Austrian violinist Wolfgang Dávid and pianist David Gompper at venues including Tallinn (Estonia), Frankfurt (Germany) and Harvard University’s Memorial Church. Dahn is currently at work on a song cycle using texts from St. Augustine’s Confessions. His music is available on the Albany record label.
