April 5–12, 2008
For 125 years, Northwestern has stood for learning that is deeply rooted in both the historic traditions of the Reformed Church and the place—northwest Iowa—from which it draws its sustenance and character. Join the Northwestern community as we explore place—both northwest Iowa and elsewhere. How have places shaped people? How have people shaped their communities and regions? What are the connections between place and history, literature, religion and scientific discovery?
Minding Place events will include writing and oral history workshops by author Jim Heynen, oral historian Charles Morrissey and others on Saturday, April 5. On Wednesday, April 9, during Northwestern’s first Day of Learning in Community, the public is welcome to join faculty, staff and students for readings and comments by Kathleen Norris, the award-winning author of Dakota: A Spiritual Geography.
