Mathematicians are among the most creative people in the world, continually coming up with new approaches to old problems, as well as new problems to study. At Northwestern, we believe God’s hand is clearly visible in the order of mathematics. Mathematical laws describe the workings of the universe, and even the most unusual scientific discoveries can be modeled with mathematics—evidence of God’s order and constancy in the world.

As a mathematics major, you’ll develop strong analytical skills that are valued in the job market. In today’s technological society, doors are often opened to applicants with mathematical backgrounds. Our graduates are working as teachers, engineers, and for financial organizations, the computer industry and insurance firms. A math major is great preparation for graduate school in areas both in and outside of mathematics, including M.B.A. programs and law schools. One Northwestern math graduate is even the CEO for a local hospital.

Whatever your direction after college, the problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills you’ll gain as a math major will serve you well.
