Checking out and renewing books and other library materials

The circulation desk is staffed during all hours the library is open. Ramaker Library collections are available to all Northwestern College students, faculty and staff, and patrons from the surrounding communities.

All college faculty, students and staff must display their college identification card when checking out books and other materials. Community patrons must register for a borrowing card. There is no charge for borrowing privileges.

Circulation loan periods

Students:   Books may be checked out for 3 weeks with 3 renewals.
Laptops/headphones may be checked out and used only in the library for 3 hours.
New books may be checked out for 3 weeks with 1 renewal.
Media (Learning Resource Center materials) may be checked out for 2 days with 1 renewals. Laptops
Periodicals may be checked out for 1 day. (Please see a reference librarian.)
Reference books may be checked out 1 day. (Please see a reference librarian.)

Faculty & staff: Books are due on the 3rd Friday in May of each year with 2 renewals. The circulation and reserves coordinator will annually post a reminder with the specific date.
New books may be checked out for 3 weeks with 1 renewal.
Media (Learning Resource Center materials) are due on the 3rd Friday in May of each year with no renewals.
Periodicals may be checked out for 3 days. (Please see a reference librarian.)
Reference books may be checked out for 3 days. (Please see a reference librarian.)
Community patrons: Books may be checked out for 3 weeks with 3 renewals.
New books may be checked out for 3 weeks with 1 renewal.
Media materials may be checked out for 2 days with 1 renewal.

Renewing books and media

Books and media materials may be renewed as long as a hold has not been placed on the item. Renewals may be made at the circulation desk, by e-mail or phone, or—for students, faculty and staff—through your “My Millenium” link.

Fines

The fine for overdue books is 10¢ per book per day following a three-day grace period. Fines for items other than books may vary.

Faculty and staff are not charged fines.

Holds

If a book is checked out to another patron, a “hold” may be placed on the item at the circulation desk or—for students, faculty and staff—through your “My Millenium” link. The patron’s name will be put on a waiting list for that item, and he or she will be notified when the book has been returned to the library.
