Interlibrary loan

Ramaker Library’s staff locates and supplies Northwestern College faculty, students and staff with books, journal articles, musical scores, media materials and other resources not found in the library. As a member of the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), Northwestern College has access to library collections throughout the world. How to use interlibrary loan
Check the Ramaker online catalog, listing of journals available through Ramaker, or EBSCOhost to see if Northwestern has the item you need. If it is not available in Ramaker, you may request books, scores, videos and DVDs electronically using one of our online forms: Printed request forms are also available at the circulation desk.

Some materials can be difficult to obtain because other libraries may not loan the following items: Reference items or rare materials, computer software, videos/CDs, musical scores, dissertations, microfilm, realia and electronic books.

All requests for music-related materials should include the accession number (OCLC) found on each record in WorldCat. Reference librarians are available to help you check the availability of an item, as well as submit a request, and may be contacted at ext. 7244.

When the item arrives, you will receive a written notice unless prior arrangements have been made. (If the item cannot be loaned, a written notice will be sent by campus mail.) Requests will be available for pickup at the circulation desk. On occasion, as required by the lending institution, an item may be used only in the library. Items sent in this manner can be used only in Ramaker Library under the supervision of library staff. Interlibrary loan staff will notify you of these special circumstances. All items should be returned to the circulation desk.

If an article will require additional time to locate, students will receive a request for approval from the library director.

Renewal requests should be submitted in time to reach the lending library no later than the due date. Students need to return all interlibrary loan items the week prior to semester exams unless arrangements are made with the interlibrary loan coordinator.
