Welcome
Ramaker Library strives to support teaching and learning at Northwestern College by providing you—students, faculty and staff—with the books, journals, media and electronic resources you need. Each year, these resources grow in both depth and breadth. Currently there are more than 120,000 books and media available, along with nearly 20,000 journals and magazine titles, many of which can be accessed through this website. Moreover, books and other resources located throughout the world are available to the Northwestern community through interlibrary loan.
The library is more than a collection of books and bytes, however; it’s a place or portal where learning occurs. From exploring a database with a reference librarian to a serendipitous discovery when browsing the stacks, the library opens to us a world beyond our immediate community. Authors’ voices from the past and other traditions, cultures and worldviews affirm us, challenge us, and most importantly, help us to engage in seeking God’s truth throughout our lives.
The library staff is here to help you find, select and obtain the information you need. We take seriously our responsibilities in teaching students to navigate the constantly growing world of information. We enjoy serving the campus and invite you to seek help, make a suggestion or just stop by to talk.
Ramaker Library is located on the college’s campus quadrangle, conveniently close to classroom buildings and residence halls. The two-story, 27,000-square-foot building was built in 1964. The library is home to one of the college’s computer labs and also provides laptops for checkout within the library. Wireless access to the Internet is available, whether you bring your own laptop or check one out. Along with books, periodicals and journals, the library contains study carrels and study rooms, microform readers, CD-ROM workstations, a Children’s Library and Curriculum Library, the Northwestern College Archives and Dutch Heritage Collection, and the Kooiker Music Collection.
