Rev. Harlan VanOort


As chaplain, Rev. Harlan VanOort serves as pastor for Northwestern students while they are away from home. He also leads a chapel program that encourages students to listen for God’s word about themselves, their communities, their callings in the world, and their relationships with God. VanOort pastored churches in Yakima, Washington, and Orange City before returning to his alma mater as chaplain in 2003. He is from Denver, Colorado, has a Master of Divinity degree from Western Theological Seminary in Michigan, and is ordained in the Reformed Church in America. He and his wife, Pat, have two daughters who graduated from Northwestern.
