Earl Woudstra, Ph.D.

Dr. Woudstra teaches courses in recreation, coaching and elementary pedagogy. A 1978 graduate of Northwestern, he holds a doctorate in kinesiology from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in recreation education from the University of Iowa. Before joining Northwestern’s faculty, Woudstra was an award-winning parks and recreation department director and coached a variety of sports. Now the coach of Northwestern’s women’s basketball team, he was named the NAIA Div. II Coach of the Year after leading the Raiders to the national championship in 2001. A member of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), Woudstra directs basketball camps on Northwestern’s campus that draw over 500 middle and high school students annually. He also leads regular sessions for area coaching clinics and does external consulting for parks and recreation departments.
